A Tyler, Texas, native Kelly Cunningham is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who has practiced in Austin since 1990. He completed his sports medicine and knee injuries fellowship with Richard Steadman, M.D., in Vail, Colorado, and studied abroad both in Norwich, England, and Vancouver, Canada, where he completed fellowship training in shoulder injuries. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and continued there during his residency in orthopaedic surgery. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Cunningham’s orthopaedic experience includes traveling team physician for the U.S. Men’s Alpine Ski Team, as well as primary orthopaedic and sports medicine consultant for the Dallas Cowboys training camp during the years it was held in Austin. His interest in knee, shoulder, hip, ligament, and cartilage injuries in athletes has led to participation in numerous international sports medicine studies and conferences.
