Imaging Services - Austin Sports Medicine

X-ray Services

Diagnostic imaging tools provide a totally painless way for doctors to look inside your body. The pictures created during the exam provide information that can improve the diagnosis of certain musculoskeletal conditions and can eliminate the need to undergo diagnostic surgical procedures. X-ray uses electromagnetic radiation to depict bone structures. Austin Sports Medicine employs the advanced Quantum©Digital Imaging System which allowsflexible positioning, more accurate testing and faster results than the older film systems. Images are saved digitally, allowing rapid review and consultation with other specialists when required.

MRI Services

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a magnetic field with radio frequency waves to depict soft tissue structures.Typically 25% of MRI tests are for extremities and do not require imaging in a whole-body MRI. Austin Sports Medicine utilizes the Esaote Lunar E-Scan XQ© Extremities MRI which offers an easy, non-claustrophobic , open environment for MRI scans of shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, knees, ankles and feet. The unit allows patients to lie comfortably while only the affected part of the body is placed in the scanner. It provides higher clarity and accuracy of images than many other open MRI systems and is much quieter than traditional MRI. You also may listen to music throughout the testing for a more relaxed experience. Physician referral is required for an extremity MRI. To schedule an appointment please call (512) 450-1300.
