Dr. Carey Windler's family moved to Texas when he was 4 months old, and he has no plans to leave. After graduating from Sweeny High School, he enrolled at Texas Tech University where he graduated with honors. He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and was a member of AOA. His surgery internship was completed at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and fellowship training at the University of Oregon in Eugene. He has served as president of the Texas Orthopaedic Association and has been a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Since 1986, he has been the Orthopaedic Surgeon for Men's Athletics at the University of Texas at Austin.
He began running over 30 years ago, has completed several marathons, and continues training year-round. Other recreational activities include scuba diving, backpacking, and savoring time with his family.
